Seam Gauge

BACK

This is an indispensible and handy tool for anyone who sews with a sewing machine. Use it to position your machine's needle exactly where you need it as well as to check the accuracy of your needle's position. You can position your needle perfectly for a scant 1/4", and an accurate 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" seam.

It is also a 3 3/8" ruler.

Instructions:

Using Edge of Presser Foot

This Seam Gauge is super simple to use.  Raise your presser foot.  Simply place the gauge under your machine's foot so that the arrow is pointing to the right.  Lower your presser foot so that the right side of the foot and the right side of the gauge are aligned and straight.  Adjust your needle position until you are able to carefully drop your needle through the hole of the desired seam allowance.  Done, the edge of your foot and the needle are now set to sew a perfect scant 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Using a Fabric Guide

Some of us like to use a fabric guide to help with accuracy.  The Seam Gauge is very useful here too.  Adjust your needle position as far right as it will go.  Raise your presser foot, place the Seam Gauge under the presser foot with the arrow pointing right.  Carefully lower the needle, adjust the Seam Gauge so that the needle drops through the hole of the desired seam allowance.  Leave needle lowered and lower presser foot.  Carefully adjust the Seam Gauge so that is is parallel with presser foot and still have the arrow facing right.  Now using the fabric guide of your choice, butt the left edge of the fabric guide to the right edge of the Seam Gauge being careful to keep the Seam Gauge straight.  Attach your fabric guide as necessary, tape (blue painters tape), screw or magnet.  Bring up your needle, lift up presser foot, remove the Seam Gauge.  Done, you are now set to sew a perfect scant 1/4 inch seam using your fabric guide.

I am selling this wonderful little ruler for $3.00.  Please email me for availability and shipping fees.
